1. Who we are
backupd is operated by [Company legal name], [Registered address] (“backupd”, “we”). These terms apply to the website, the app and the API. By creating an account you accept them on behalf of yourself and the workspace you create or join.
2. The service
backupd connects to databases you point it at, makes scheduled backups, encrypts and stores them, tests that they restore, and lets you restore or download them. What each plan includes is set out on the pricing section and in Settings → Billing.
Backups are a safeguard, not a guarantee. You remain responsible for checking that the backups you need exist and restore, for keeping your own encryption keys safe, and for any copies you need beyond what your plan keeps.
3. Your account and workspace
- Give accurate details and keep your sign-in secure.
- Workspace owners and admins decide who has access, and are responsible for what members do in the workspace.
- Only connect databases you are allowed to copy, and only give us credentials you are allowed to share.
4. Acceptable use
Don’t use backupd to:
- break the law or anyone’s rights, or store data you have no right to hold;
- probe, scan or attack networks or systems you don’t control;
- get around plan limits, rate limits or security controls;
- resell the service without a written agreement with us.
We may suspend a workspace that puts the service or other customers at risk. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you time to download your backups.
5. Your data
Your databases and backups are yours. You give us the rights we need to run the service: to connect to your databases, to copy, compress, encrypt, store, test and restore your backups, and to copy them to destinations you add. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
Backups are encrypted to backupd’s key for your workspace and to every key you add. We use our key only to run restore tests and restores, and to provide support you ask for.
6. Plans, trials and payment
- Plans are billed monthly in advance, per workspace, through our payment provider Polar. Extra storage is billed on the period’s peak, up to any spending cap you set.
- Starter comes with a 14-day free trial. If you don’t cancel before it ends, the plan starts and is charged.
- Launch offers apply as stated when you subscribe, while they last, and only to the period they name.
- Without a plan in good standing a workspace becomes read-only: new backups stop, and existing backups stay available to download and restore.
- Prices may change with at least 30 days’ notice. Taxes are added where required.
7. Cancelling and deleting
You can cancel any time in Settings → Billing; the plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. You can delete backups, databases or the whole workspace at any time. Deleted backups and workspaces can be recovered for 7 days, then they are removed from our storage, within a day after that.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep backupd running and your backups safe, but the service is provided as is, without a guaranteed uptime unless a written agreement says otherwise. We may change or remove features; if a change takes away something you pay for, we will tell you in advance.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, neither of us is liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us in that time. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
10. Ending this agreement
You can stop at any time by deleting your workspace. We can end it with 30 days’ notice, or at once for a serious breach of these terms. Either way, you will have the chance to download your backups unless the law prevents it.
11. Law and contact
These terms are governed by [Governing law and courts]. Questions about them: [email protected]. For a signed agreement or custom terms: [email protected].
